Henry Fillmore was a US bandleader well known for composing marches and "screamers". This is one of the latter, a march composed as a show-piece to be played at extreme speed, rather than for marching. As well as concert openers and encores these marches were used extensively for shows and circuses as a way to rouse the audience.
Rolling Thunder was a showcase for Fillmore's trombonists, and features a fiendish trombone part. This 2018 arrangement puts that part on tenor sax, although it's a little easier on a keyed instrument!
