Written for an Industrial Society ball and inspired by the opening of the Austrian Southern Railway, the "Vergnügungszug Polka" celebrates the new "pleasure trains" that ferried Viennese society out for day trips or weekends away in the eastern alps, or onwards to Ljubljana and the adriatic port of Trieste. Marked simply "fast" this is a joyous polka that never loses momentum with the continuous motion of the train overlaid with the happy sound of the travellers and even a triangle as the train bell.
