Ich Habe Genug

Johann Sebastian Bach, arr. Ben Tordoff

Composed:
1727
Arranged:
2022
Grouping:
sSATBb
Duration:
06:20

This beautiful baritone aria was written for the celebration of the presentation of Jesus at the Temple (2nd February, and marking the official end of Christmas to some Christians). It represents the words of Simeon, promised that he would see the Messiah before he died, and having seen Jesus content that his life was fulfilled - the same origin as the nunc dimittis.

Here the bari sax takes the main solo with the decorative obbligato part on sopranino.

You might also like Bach's Sinfonia for later in February also for six saxes: Just as the Rain and Snow Fall from Heaven. The opening of this aria is also related to one of Bach's most famous arias from the St Matthew Passion, "Erbame Dich", available from Saxtet Publications
