Based on parts of Ovid's Metamorphoses, Lully's Cadmus and Hermione was the first "tragédie en musique", a form of opera usually based on classical literature. It tells the love story between Cadmus, King of Thebes, and Hermione, daughter of Venus and Mars. This arrangement of the overture is for six saxes.
