Egyptischer Marsch

Johann Strauss II, arr. Peter Guthrie

Composed:
1869
Arranged:
2006
Grouping:
SAAATBb
Duration:
05:00

In 1869 the eyes of Europe were focussed on Egypt and the engineering marvel of the Suez canal which first opened for traffic that year. Plays, music, and other commemorations were written, of which this march by Strauss is one of the more enduring. Although written as a standalone piece, it was later used in the play "Into Egypt" by Bittner to accompany the march past of Egyptian warriors.
