Captain Arthur Green joined the Royal Naval School of Music in its early years, and served in the Navy for more than 40 years. He moved through the ranks from band boy right up to band master and director of the junior division at the Royal Naval School of Music, serving in both world wars along the way. He is now remembered chiefly for his band arrangement of the bugle call "sunset" that has become a standard for Naval Bands.

A shortened form of this fanfare forms the introduction to "sunset". See also the original arrangement for trumpet (bugle).
