Sax Quartets

Locus Iste

Anton Bruckner, arr. Ben Tordoff

Composed:
1869
Arranged:
2020
Grouping:
SATB or AATB
Duration:
01:55

"Locus iste a Deo factus est" translates roughly as "This place was made by God" and is used for the "gradual" procession at the dedication of a church or other holy site. Several composers have created settings but Anton Bruckner's is by far the best known and most frequently performed. Scored for unaccompanied SATB choir this motet translates nicely onto the regular sax quartet or for a larger group split roughly evenly between the four parts.

An alternative alto version of the first part is provided for quartets without a soprano.
