Although he wrote ballets, string works, and more, Jean-Baptiste Singelée is remembered in the saxophone world as the composer that wrote the first ever sax quartet and many early solo pieces to test the skills of the student's of Adolphe Sax's first saxophone course at the Conservatoire de Paris. This is one of the few solos written specifically for baritone saxophone and on a modern instrument is a very approachable concert piece.
Starting from an 1864 original provided by the archive of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, here we have arranged the piano accompaniment for sax quartet with optional parts for bass and sopranino. A transcription of the original piano accompaniment is also available here.
